Full-time crews removing plastic from oceans, rivers, and coastlines — funded by recycled products.
Since 2017, 4ocean has removed more than 50 million pounds of plastic and trash from oceans, rivers, and coastlines, across 29,311 documented cleanups. The work has created 2,456 jobs, supported 346 artisans in Bali and Guatemala, restored 5,672 square feet of kelp forest, and planted 5,000 mangroves. Impact is tracked through weighed, documented collections and a live impact dashboard, with a stated goal of reaching 100 million pounds removed.
4ocean, a for-profit Public Benefit Corporation and certified B Corp founded in January 2017 by surfers Alex Schulze and Andrew Cooper, headquartered in Boca Raton, Florida, with about 250 employees worldwide.
Full-time professional captains and cleanup crews recover plastic and trash from oceans, rivers, and coastlines every day. The model: each bracelet or product sold funds the removal of one pound of trash, and recovered material is sorted, shredded, and turned into recycled products.
Active since January 2017. On February 20, 2026, 4ocean surpassed 50 million pounds of plastic and trash removed from oceans, rivers, and coastlines worldwide — one of the largest verified ocean cleanup milestones in history.
Operations run across the United States, Indonesia, Guatemala, the Dominican Republic, and other coastal regions, with cleanups hosted in over seven countries. Their own impact report shows 85 percent of cleanups happen in rivers, 12 percent on coastlines, and 3 percent in open ocean.
Plastic harms marine wildlife, breaks into microplastics, and persists for decades. 4ocean's founders saw beaches buried in garbage on a surf trip to Bali in 2015 and built a business that pays crews to remove it every day.
